Indian Idol

Indian Idol is a popular singing talent contest to discover the best young singer in India. The show is based on the UK Pop Idol format. In India it is telecast live by Sony TV and is co-produced with FremantleMedia of the German media corporation Bertelsmann.

The Indian Idol 5 is an Indian reality show telecast on Sony TV, and is a sequal to Indian Idol 4. The winners of Indian Idol 1 was Abhijeet Sawant, Indian Idol 2 was Sandeep Acharya and the Indian Idol 3 was Prashant Tamang.

The auditions took place in Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Delhi, Guwahati, Gwalior, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Varanasi.

The judges for Indian Idol 5 were Anu Malik, Sunidhi Chauhan and Salim Merchant. The winner of Indian Idol 5 was Sreeramchandra Mynampati from Hyderabad. He was awarded a one year contract with Sony Entertainment Television worth Indian Rupee 5,000,000, a Suzuki GS-150R motorbike, a Tata Winger Platinum car and a chance to be a playback singer in a forthcoming movie of Yash Raj Films.

Sreeram Chandra has already made his debut in Telugu movie industry. He also sang a song with Shreya Ghoshal for Salim Suleman Merchant during the course of Indian Idol 5. Thanks to with Bappi Lahiri, Swaroop Khan got the chance to sing a song as the playback singer during the course of Indian Idol 5 before his elimination.

Rakesh Maini was eliminated earlier. But the Judges used their veto power and Rakesh was saved from being eliminated. he was one of the finalists.

Sourabhee Debbarma of Tripura is the winner of Indian Idol 4. She is the first female to win the Indian Idol.
